1900-1910; G. F. Heublein & Brother - Hartford, CT

Early tin lithograph advertising sign for Kremette French Ice Cream Dressing, dominated by a large illustrated bottle against a deep green ground with contrasting red border. The elaborate bottle label advertises Kremette as an accompaniment to vanilla ice cream and incorporates a colorful illustration of a glass cup filled with pink ice cream. Directions and promotional copy appear across the lower portion of the label, along with "Prepared by G. F. Heublein & Bro." and the cities New York, Hartford, and London.

The striking vertical composition, saturated red-and-green palette, ornate lettering, and oversized product bottle were designed for visibility in a confectionery, soda fountain, grocery, or general-store setting.

G. F. Heublein & Brother grew from the Hartford restaurant and hotel business established by Andrew Heublein in 1862. Under Gilbert and Louis Heublein, the company became a prominent producer and distributor of prepared foods, bottled cocktails, wines, and spirits, incorporating in 1901 and marketing specialty products throughout the United States and abroad.

Shows substantial age-related wear while retaining a clear and highly decorative central image. The surface exhibits numerous scratches, abrasions, scattered pigment loss, spotting, and areas of discoloration. The tips of both upper corners are missing. One bottom corner is bent backward, while an upper corner bends gently outward. The main body has a visible dent, and a series of small mounting holes runs along the top edge. Oxidation and pigment loss are concentrated around the perimeter and corners, with additional corrosion along the bottom edge. The reverse exhibits significant overall oxidation, surface discoloration, staining, and wear.
