Exceptional large-scale salesman's sample or engineering model of an open-top railroad hopper car, constructed from sheet metal with extensive riveted detailing. The model features paneled sides, reinforced upper rails, internal cross braces, sloping hopper floors, end platforms, ladders, railings and multiple independently operated discharge gates with locking stops. The body is displayed on sturdy built-in brackets and was constructed without wheel or truck assemblies. Its functional mechanisms and highly detailed construction suggest that it was made to demonstrate hopper design, fabrication and unloading operation.

The manufacturer remains unidentified; detailed functional models of this type were historically produced by railroad-equipment and industrial engineering firms to demonstrate construction methods and mechanical features to prospective customers.

Car is in good condition with very little oxidation. Shows soiling, staining, surface scratches and edge wear consistent with age, handling and storage. The interior exhibits scattered paint splatter and discoloration. All hopper mechanisms operate independently, including their locks and stops; care should be taken when closing the gates to ensure that the linkages move into the correct positions. One end railing has broken loose, allowing it to swing and scrape the upright to which it was formerly attached. The built-in display brackets remain sturdy. No trucks or wheel assemblies are present.

PARCEL SHIPPING

We ship smaller objects with UPS and USPS. All shipments are fully insured and adhere to carrier packing guidelines. Shipping costs for smaller items being shipped within the continental United States are free up to $100. If a parcel shipment exceeds $100, the remaining costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. Please reach out to us for a free shipping quote on items you are interested in purchasing and note that international shipments may incur additional shipping cost.

FREIGHT SHIPPING

Free freight shipping is available for most large items. Conditions and restrictions apply: Free delivery is only offered on orders in the continental US. Shipping for freight items is free up to $500. If freight shipping costs exceed $500, the buyer is responsible for covering any amount over $500. Free freight delivery services include: delivery to a freight terminal, curbside delivery, and door-to-door delivery with a private carrier. White glove delivery services are *not included* in our free freight shipping policy, but may be available for a fee. Buyers may be subject to fees in cases where a delivery location is remote/difficult to access, or where a shipment requires special handling. Please contact us for shipping quotes and available services prior to purchasing. 

All shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the buyer assumes all responsibility for the shipment the moment it leaves our loading dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles. 

Delivery for freight items averages between 2-4 weeks. Longer delivery times are to be expected in cases where a delivery location is remote or when an order contains especially large or fragile items.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
